Taronga Western Plains Zoo lion exhibit is also home to a population of the endangered southern purple spotted gudegon.
These fish are now protected by not only big cats, but modern fish protections screens fitted to the pumps that draw water from the Macquarie River to service the zoo.
The pumps were manufactured by AWMA to be retractable for easy inspection and servicing, which is a common feature on pumps along the lower Macquarie River Screening Program.
