Central West Farming Systems

Central West Farming Systems (CWFS) is an independent, not-for-profit, farmer driven organisation with the goal of advancing research in agriculture. 

At the forefront of research and extension into sustainable agriculture 

They operate in an area covering 14 million hectares in Central Western NSW and have over 300 members made up of farmers, private and public sector advisers, researchers and stakeholders. CWFS have the expertise to demonstrate how a modern fish screen can be incorporated into an agricultural business and can use their extensive engagement network to deliver this information to their many members.  

CWFS has installed a 2mm wedgewire brushed cylinder screen on a 10 ML/Day centrifugal pump at their NSW DPI Condobolin Agricultural Research & Advisory Station, where they currently irrigate around 120 hectares of winter cereal. The pump has been mounted on a skid that can be sunk or floated for easy screen inspection. The stations technical officer Glen Forbes is expecting that the screen and skid combination will provide added benefit of raising he foot valve off the river bottom, stopping mud being sucked into the pipe which can cause wear and tear on the pump over time.
